SH polarization is described by PSH,i = χijk(2)Ej(ω)Ek(ω), where PSH,i and χijk(2) are the SH polarization and SH susceptibility tensor, and the subscripts i, j, and k, refer to the axes of the sample. The space group Pna21 of ε-Fe2O3 has a crystallographic term in the second-order nonlinear susceptibility35. When the nanoparticles are oriented by electric and magnetic fields as (electric polarization) //z-axis (c-axis) and (magnetic polarization) //x-axis (a-axis), the nonzero elements in χijk(2) are , , , and . Additionally, below TC, the magnetic polarization generates a magnetic term in the Pna21 magnetic space group, that is, , , , and . The nonzero tensor elements in χijk(2) are described by the sum of and by the following tensor.

Nile Polymers, based out of Centerville, Utah, recently began offering what it is calling Fluorinar-H, a Kynar-based filament designed for industrial-grade 3D printing. They have a 100% Kynar grade while other products are blends, including Nile Polymers’ Fluorinar-C PVDF copolymer filament. Other companies offering Kynar-based products are 3DXTech and Convena Polymers.

The experimental protocol was approved by the Animal Care and Experiment Committee of Sixth Peoples Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Medicine, and all procedures were strictly carried out in accordance with the approved guidelines. Thirty female and adult New Zealand white rabbits with a body weight of 3.87 ± 0.31 kg were randomly divided into two groups corresponding to 250-PMg and 400-PMg scaffold. The rabbits were anesthetized with pentobarbital (25 mg/kg) by intravenous injection. For the surgical procedures, A 3 mm diameter and 8 mm deep hole was made by a hand driller at the lateral epicondyle by a minimally invasive approach (Fig. 1d). Subsequently, the scaffolds (3 mm diameter and 5 mm height) were implanted into the prepared holes, and then the surgical wound was closed carefully. The animals were sacrificed by an overdose of intravenous pentobarbital sodium 8 and 16 weeks following implantation. Additionally, in order to observer the tissue response, the scaffolds were implanted into the lumbar musculature as well as subcutaneously on each side of the back via an axial access 2 cm cranial to the pelvic bone, and the animals were sacrificed after 8 weeks using a high dose of pentobarbital sodium.

Transparent nonvolatile nano-floating gate memory devices are demonstrated through using ZnO NPs/polymer electret nanocomposite as a charge storage layer. The ZnO NPs were treated by the ligand, n-butylamine, leading the stable and well-separated NPs in solution. Furthermore, high transparent dielectric layers can be made, despite adding ZnO NPs into PS or PVPK polymer electret. Spray-coated PEDOT:PSS was exploited as the gate and source–drain electrodes for the fabrication of the transparent memory devices. The overall transmittance is 90% at the wavelength of 500 nm, showing high potential for transparent memory. A large memory window, long charge retention time over 105 s and the WRER process over 200 cycles were obtained in this ZnO nanocomposite-based memory devices. Additionally, all of the processes were carried out in the low temperature and without using noble metals as floating-gate. Therefore, these methods could potentially be used in integrated electronic components/circuits and transparent electronic device applications.

One of the key features of classical SMSI behavior is that the aforementioned HTR phenomena are reversible upon O2 treatment, as is observed for RR2Ti-(H500+O400). For example, the restoration of CO adsorption for RR2Ti-(H500+O400) (Fig. 1) and HRTEM (Fig. 3F) evidences the reversibility of CO adsorption and gold encapsulation. XPS (Fig. 2A) and CO DRIFTS (band position) suggest that electron transfer between titania and gold is also reversible. The reversible nature of the classical SMSI effect following HTR and subsequent reoxidation is expected to strongly affect catalyst activity (18, 19, 40). The catalytic performance of the present Au/TiO2 samples was therefore assessed toward CO oxidation, an industrially important reaction for pollution abatement, over two cycles of redox treatments under a model CO/O2 feedstream and compared with analogous in situ CO DRIFTS measurements (Fig. 4). Suppressed CO chemisorption following HTR was mirrored by a marked decrease in CO conversion, with catalyst reoxidation restoring both CO adsorption capacity and oxidation activity, providing strong evidence for a reversible, classical SMSI in the commercial RR2Ti system (18, 40, 56).

Similar to how computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) revolutionized solid implant fabrication years ago, additive manufacturing technology is impacting the field by making the promise of precision medicine accessible to patients requiring complex reconstructive surgery20,21. Here, we show that 3D Ti-6Al-4 V implant surfaces can be designed that enhance osteoblast response in vitro and osseointegration in vivo compared to smooth surfaces, and that these additively manufactured and processed surfaces can be combined with DBX for osseointegration beyond the bone envelope in vivo. This conclusion was achieved in a stepwise process that included surface modification at the microscale and nanoscale, validation that the modified surface supported osteoblastic differentiation of normal human osteoblasts; in vivo demonstration that the surface modification was sufficient to support bone formation using qualitative and quantitative imaging and biomechanical parameters, translation of the technology to a more challenging animal model, and finally use of the technology to support implant placement in two edentulous human patients with severe bone loss.

“The PVDF-C (the copolymer) is very easy to print, on practically any 3D printer. There is almost no warping and large objects are also not a problem. The PVDF-H, on the other hand, is much more difficult to print.”

A UV-vis spectrophotometer (Thermo Scientific Evolution 201) was used. A MXene film sprayed on the PET substrate was placed in a slide holder. A clean PET sheet was used as a reference for the measurements. Spectra were collected in both modes—transmittance and absorbance. To calculate MXene film thickness, the absorbance value at 550 nm was used (20).
